The Valley

THE VALLEY

To the one who went as far away as any universe would allow,
It feels close to what they said life was supposed to feel like:
a sudden awareness of the world’s vastness,
a shift in scale,
a tender revelation of a sky too big to hold —
Now forget where home is.

Then your body becomes countless versions of everything and everyone you’ve ever known — in the greenest, shapeless, most remote place,
where you wish you could dissolve into the landscape
and be remembered only as part of it.

You learn that not coming back is allowed.
That it’s okay to be missed without really being missed.
That leaving isn’t wrong. That you owe no one your return.

You stay.
You leap — and pretend to become an impossible water metaphor, with the quiet knowledge that the world is only blue and green,
and that maybe for now that's enough.
