With museums reopening to the public and galleries launching physical shows after a long period of uncertainty, we felt inspired to start a quick (but very motivating) research for some of the new art institutions opening their doors for the first time this year.

Here you will find the 5 Newborn Art Museums that the team of We The Cool Magazine feels the most excited about.

Bourse de Commerce — Pinault Collection (Paris)

Developed since 2006 by the founder of the luxury group Kering, François Pinault, The Bourse de Commerce was built under the perspective on the contemporary art collection that the French businessman has reunited over the past forty years.

The collection hosts over 10,000 works —between paintings, sculptures, videos, photographs, audio works, installations, and performances— by almost 400 artists coming from all over the world.

Pudong Museum of Art (Shangai)

Also known as PMoA, this new art institution designed by Jean Nouvel Architects (the creative minds behind big museums such as Louvre Abu Dhabi and the Cartier Foundation in Paris) will specialize in international artists, followed by local art exhibitions. The opening exhibition will run under the direction of London’s iconic Tate Gallery, which has been providing consultancy for PMoA in terms of operations and management since its announcement in 2017.

Grand Egyptian Museum (Giza)

While most of us were counting the days for the lockdown to be finished, Egypt had been preparing the final details to inaugurate the largest archeological museum in the world located two kilometers far from the Giza pyramid. Designed by Heneghan Peng Architects, GEM will encompass over 3,500 years of Egyptian history by introducing more than 50,000 artworks, artifacts and relics (including the complete Tutankhamun collection).
